As Kitty Collins with Burt Lancaster
in The Killers
(1946)
Based on a short story by Hemingway. This was Ava's big break (and
Burt's too, incidentally).
As Venus Jones in One Touch of Venus
(1948)
What you see here would appear to be version two of the statue of Ava
as Venus. The studio had asked the artist for a statue of Ava as a
classical Venus, which is what he made, but it turned out that you
couldn't have a heroine walk around a Hollywood movie with bare
breasts at the time (not that you could now, half a century later, of
course, but anyway), so the sculptor had to make a second
version . . . Well, that's what Ava claimed in her autobiography, at
any rate.

As Eloise Kelly with Clark Gable
in Mogambo
(1953)
Flaming love found in the savage heart of the jungle!
This is a remake of Red Dust
from 1932, with Ava
playing the part originally played by Jean Harlow
and
Gable in the part originally played by himself. Ava got her only Oscar
nomination for her role in this movie.
Poster of Bhowani Junction
(1956)
A Drama Aflame With Love And Revolt!
With A Thousand Elephants!
As Soledad with Dirk Bogarde
in The Angel Wore Red
(1960)
